It is all happening in Barnsley this month, Experience Barnsley http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attraction_Review-g528795-d4460188-Reviews-Experience_Barnsley_Museum_and_Discovery_Centre-Barnsley_South_Yorkshire_England.html has welcomed the 40,000 visitor since it opened at the end of June this year.  Barnsley College has taken over the management of the University Campus in Barnsley with the University of Huddersfield degree courses continuing to prosper and the graduates of the Art and Design degree course at the Campus (UCB) have collaborated to create an exhibition that opens tonight at the Northern Young Artists’ studios and exhibition space at Redbrook Business Park.

A celebration of the art and artists cultivated by the University Campus Barnsley

An Unofficial Alumni

An Unofficial Alumni is a multi-media exhibition collaboratively curated by John Ledger, Corinne White and Dave Jarvis.

After 9 years, 2013 marks the end of degree courses at University Campus Barnsley being run by the University of Huddersfield. An Unofficial Alumni is a showcase of working artists who studied or taught at the campus during these years. These artists have gone on to work in a diverse range of medias, including painting, photography, ceramics, design and installation art.

The artist-curators have a conviction that individual efforts, brought together, show that a strong body of intelligent and challenging work has been created by artists who studied or taught within a building situated in the very centre of Barnsley. They are committed to celebrating this in the town where it was cultivated. Barnsley is a northern English town that has often been overlooked as an area for generating art/artists; any attempt to help shift this status is important to further development of the town’s culture.

The exhibition will include painting, drawings, ceramics and a robot. The exhibiting artists are: Lee Gasgoyne, Corinne White, David Jarvis, Richard Turner, John Ledger, Louise Wright, Steve Ellis, Gemma Brookes, Andrew William Parker, Emma Wroe, Shane Wogan and Robert Nunns

Northern Young Artists are proud to be hosting the exhibition at their studios and exhibition space at Redbrook Business Park.

Please note unfortunately there is no wheelchair access to the building.
