In recent weeks I have made more connections around the world through various channels and for those new acquaintances, as well as for the benefit of more established colleagues, hello and this is what I’m up to.
If you read my blog https://ddodv.wordpress.com/ you will seen that Deranged Drums on Digital Vistas was completed and performed with the help of crowd funding through the Indiegogo website. Thank you again to the Mixed Metals Percussion Ensemble and drummer Peter Fairclough for the inspiration and performances.
With that work completed and a significant change to my employment status I have once again found the freedom to create. There was a similar period of independence in my late teens and early twenties but these days there are far more accessible ways of creating. I am now enjoying writing poetry and editing together films as well as composing music. The ability to record (in sound and pictures) that current technology enables, and mostly from my phone, now gives me many ideas each day. Link straight to the films at my YouTube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/DdoDV.
Going from full time employment to being a freelance musician has made me look again at how society and the music industries support the innovative and creative. Politicians still pronounce about the need for entrepreneurs and innovation to drive the recovery and it is shame they do not possess much or we could have been in a different financial world now rather than paying to prop up the banks.
Regarding the business aspects of my new situation the online store/website with many works for percussion (and brass quintet and cello and…) is http://www.prbpnews.info and after the crowd funding of earlier this year I have started a patronage page http://www.patreon.com/prbpnews
I have placed some of my music on Soundcloud http://soundcloud.com/music-54-4/ but most of the more recent music along with downloads and backing tracks is available at the Bandcamp site http://urbanskyline.bandcamp.com/ I hope to get the majority of the Deranged Drums on Digital Vistas recordings onto this site in the coming months for you to play with.
Please have a look at the links and enjoy the music. If you have arrived from one social media site the current list of other channels is: Twitter @prbpnews, Facebook peter.birkby.96 and LinkedIn Peter Birkby. The free scales and modes examples for the iPad are at https://itunes.apple.com/us/book/scales-and-modes/id502409245?mt=11
and after all these introductions it must be time for a coffee (or tea or wine or beer…)
